Applied Learning Programme [ALP]

To realise the school vision of developing Damaians to be Confident Individuals, Thinking Learners and Engaged Leaders, one of the goals is to equip our students with the skills to develop future-ready learners and responsible digital citizens. 

Our school’s ALP ‘IGNITE your CONFIDENCE, EXPRESS Yourself!’ provides the platforms for our students to develop future learning skills on communication and technology.

Damai Primary School’s ALP focuses on languages (communication skills). We believe that equipping our students with good communication skills will stand them in good stead as the ability to communicate effectively is a highly valued soft skill. In today's interconnected world, the ability to communicate effectively is more critical than ever.

Through ALP (Languages), the school aims to enhance students’ ability to express themselves confidently [speak with conviction and engage others with confidence] and communicate effectively in English Language and Mother Tongue Languages. The ALP is weaved into the curriculum to enhance the language learning experience of the students.

P1 Musical Theatre [EL] and  P2 Speech & Drama [MTL]

All Primary 1 and 2 students attend Musical Theatre Programme [EL] as well as  Speech and Drama Programme [MTL] respectively to help them develop effective communication skills. 

Through the Musical Theatre and Speech & Drama programmes, our students gain confidence in expressing themselves in front of others. They learn to overcome stage fright and develop a sense of poise and self-assurance. 

The programme provide a holistic learning experience for our students, helping them develop essential communication skills, confidence, creativity, and teamwork abilities.

P3 Storytelling using Moo-O [EL & MTL]

To motivate our lower primary students to read and speak English language and Mother Tongue languages fluently and expressively, Damai Primary leverages on Moo-O, an online platform that allows for a fun, engaging and immersive way of reading. Using Moo-O,  teachers create reading and speaking activities for students by turning them into story characters. 

Students have a lot of fun immersing themselves as story characters to produce videos that demonstrate their reading fluency and understanding of the story.  Being able to record themselves reading the story in character is a fun and meaningful way for our students to showcase their learning - reading fluently and with expression.

P4 Public Speaking [EL]

Public speaking enhances students’ ability to communicate effectively. They learn to articulate their thoughts clearly, organise their ideas logically, and express themselves confidently, which are valuable skills in various aspects of life.

By mastering public speaking, our students gain confidence in themselves and their abilities. Delivering a speech in front of an audience helps them to overcome stage fright and build self-confidence. 

P5 Vlogging [EL]

Vlogging requires students to articulate their thoughts, ideas, and experiences effectively in front of a camera. This process helps them develop strong verbal communication skills, improve their storytelling abilities, and become more comfortable expressing themselves.

Learning to create vlogs provides students with a range of valuable skills and experiences that can benefit them academically, and personally. It encourages creativity, communication, and self-expression while fostering digital literacy, media literacy, and audience engagement in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.

P5 Broadcast Journalism [MTL]

The Broadcast Journalism programme provides opportunities for P5 students to learn through social interaction with their peers, teachers and school staff. Through the programme, students will learn:

o The importance of keeping abreast of contemporary issues;

o Etiquette of interviewing; and

o Journalist techniques e.g. question design, storyboarding, script writing, etc.

Broadcast Journalism Plus Programme

P4 and P5 students who show keen interest and proficiency in the Chinese and Malay Languages will be invited to take part in the Mother Tongue (MT) Broadcast Journalism (BJ) Plus Programme. The enrichment programme is an extension of the existing BJ programme (that takes place during P5 CCE lessons) and seeks to groom student reporters to cover school-based events or embark on special projects. Some of the projects students were involved in over the years included coverages on Project SuperSpark, Camp@School, and a tribute to teachers to celebrate Teachers’ Day.
